I know exactly what you are facing with the Pads and the small dirt walls that can be created. Very frustrating. See the attached for an alternate for street work somewhat time consuming but very accurate.

I hate pads as well. i am trying to JOIN a wall to a pad so that the concrete curb in the wall and the concrete pad will join and look as one. I can do this with floors. is it pads that you cannot join or cut geometry? RAC2009 SP3. thanks.

twhisker, No, i'm not trying to cut geometry or anything. I'm just drawing, for an asphalt street. When I first discovered pads, I was creating all aspects of the street - curb, gutter, sidewalk, and the pavement. This is when I first encountered the "pad overlap" problem, so I eliminated my pads down to one instance - the street. That worked for a couple of projects, but I recently received the message again despite the fact that I only had a SINGLE pad, and it wasn't overlapping itself anywhere, AND i wasn't even working on the pad. mbsteve, thanks for your suggestion. That's a very good idea. I haven't yet had to actually used a sloping topo, since none of my clients have requested a 3D model of the site. so, my need for pads is completely absent, regardless of my frustrations with them. When the time comes for me to model topography, i'll use your suggestion. Thanks!

I hate pads aswell. i'm waiting for 2010 to see if they've fixed the problem, but you are not crazy, pads are. I know tons of people that encounter this same problem when doing curbs and what not. The "pads cannot overlap" error haunts my dreams. The picture given on the first page of posts proves nothing seeing as how the pads do share an edge, but they are not deep enough to touch one another. Try deepening the pads so that the common edges touch, and you will get the error. This really needs to be fixed! I'm hoping for 2010.
