Okay i have a DWG file from autocad that i need to add some things to. I can only import it but then I cant ad any components to it because it is like a link or the walls aren't registered as walls etc. and it is just one large unit more as a reference. I didnt know if there was a way to change the file into a revit file or not. Thanks

If you are using ADT you can export to IFC then import the IFC file into Revit. If you are just using cad solids they cannot convert.

You can not change a dwg into a REVIT file even if you use IFC. You can import solids, lines and text but REVIT entities are unique to REVIT. If you need a rvt file, the import/link the dwg and build overtop of that.

I'm confused, I thought the whole reasoning behind IFC certification for Revit, Autocad Architecture, and ArchiCad was so that you could share model information from one platform to another. Should I have been more specific and said "you may export your Autocad Architecture BIM model ONLY into IFC format, then you may import your BIM model in IFC format into Revit and it will share the IFC parameters between platforms." I have not done this with Autocad Architecture, but have seen it work successfully from Revit to ArchiCad.

Well, you can export in IFC in CAD and import in Revit in IFC, like you can see in the 1º image is in CAD, then in 2º image you have in Revit the model and "He" recognize the "walls" but in 3º image "He" don't recognize the "roof" like a roof, only like a "imported" DWG, in the walls you can edit and change the profile and attach/detach but there are some objects "he" don't "like"....
