using a usage tag that has the room name, SF, and uage. I want to hide the usage line, so that although the area sorts by that attribute in the schedule it is not seen on the plan? I was able to do hide in another tag since there was a box in the element properties that I was able to uncheck and hide the usage type, but this other tage type does not have that box in the element properties. where I do make this not visible?

As with most questions in REVIT, the best and first place to find your answers is the HELP file.  Look under parameters.  You don't need a shared parameter for this so look at "Creating new parameters" ...

some experience mainly editing though, haven't created new ones. I found where to add a parameter but everything was grayed out and I wasn't able to.
