I have created a custom brick pattern of 12 x 24 inch blocks. At the third course from the bottom, I need to add an 8 x 24 course and then continue with 12 x 24 blocks above it. Is this possible through just text editing the .PAT file? I have read through most of the forum topics and would rather not purchase Hatchkit 2.7 just for this one time use. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance.

I don't blieve this is possible ... even if you do purchase hatchkit. Hatch patterns are simply a repeated group of commands. They started way back when we had pen plotters and were pen up ... distance ... pen down...

Use your main pattern, then come in and edit face and apply the smaller pattern.

Out of curiosity Lunchtrayrider, how would I do it for every third course?

Why not use the hatch pattern that you have, and use a Host Sweep => Wall Sweep to add the single course of the other size block? That way you can see it in 3D, you can easily adjust it up or down, it will be cut by windows and doors, and you could even give it a slightly differnet Cut Pattern to designate it in section views. I would have to agree that trying to edit a hatch pattern to do this sounds harder than is necessary.

I thought about that as well, but the 8 inch block isn't a sill or an extruded course. It is just another course of the same width and depth, only 8 inches tall instead of 12. In addition, a wall sweep doesn't "cut" the wall pattern so it doesn't start over above it, it only continues behind it. I appreciate the idea though.

A stacked wall would do you right. Make it 3 peices. The first would be the portion of the wall below the 8" band. Then next wall protion would be the 8" band, and then the rest of the wall would be on top. That would fix the hatch pattern staring over problem. Stacked walls are kind of cumbersoum to edit, and I don't use them all the time, but it might work best in your case.

if you were editing the .pat file you would just make three rows and it would repeat.

Sorry I'm late to the party, TigerARCH. The attached pattern has 3 courses of 24" blocks being 12, 12 then 8" tall. Have a look at it with the HatchKit Demo to see how the pattern repeats on a skewed grid. Compliments of the season, Hugh Adamson Cadro Pty Ltd www.hatchkit.com.au
