I have been using Revit Architecture 2008 for about 2 months now. I can say I like alot of the program all the linked information and BIM technology is really convienient with alot I mean alot of things.

But on a side note Some things really get me frustraighted.  Like making simple detailed items that would normally take 5 minuetes, take an hour.

Example I had to create a family for an arched shutter.  Once I made it the size was off.. I had to redo all of the extrusions and sweeps to the different size.

Yes you can make constraints you can make it all nice and perfect for changing the sizes for later use but, how many times are you in a project and you end up having to make 60% of the drawing/model custom in some way or another... and than take double the time to make it "constrained" for later use.

Sorry for the ranting, but some things with this program are way too involved to get a detailed component.

"I have been using Revit Architecture 2008 for about 2 months now", well, i think it's premature for your side to talk what really you don't dominate, when you "understand" the families you don't talk like this, then you go and spend time to put your families parametric, and why? because you dont do this "Once I made it the size was off.. I had to redo all of the extrusions and sweeps to the different size."

I think that a lot of the initial frustration just comes from not having decades old libraries of objects and blocks to draw from.  Once you start to build these libraries you'll be glad you made them parametric so they were really easy to use on multiple projects.  Plus the parameters will get easier to build in as time goes.  Sounds like you "get it" so to speak, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Learning to cope up with frustrations is one of the virtues you'll learn from Revit. Some people can't wait to learn everything for so short a time that they become frustrated when things don't go their way. Try Revit some more and you are always welcome here to share your frustrations. One thing you should know all (or not all) Reviteers share your feelings. Discover!

except for me.  I am an emotionless machine sent from the future to use revit on a slow computer in order to learn  something. but I forgot what it was. not that I care. I don't have emotions you know.

well... Thanks for all of the replies everyone.

yeah I was ranting a bit much, and I do comprehend the program .. pretty well.

I still see certain things being extremely tidious to accomplish a very minuete detail that realistically shouldnt ever take that much effort. Like 2 hours on a shutter constaints or no contraints.
