Hi  I'm new to Revit, I guess you could say I'm the Office Revit "Guinea Pig".

I am using Revit Architecture 2009.  Over the past few weeks I've been having major problems with Revit files becoming corrupt.  I've been talking with the KarelCAD online support & with our local computer tech.  Both agree that it's strange but no one can help me with my problem.

When I leave my files at the end of the day there are no problems.  In the morning they will not open. "An invalid file handle was associated with F:\....file name....".  This happens with every file I open & saved on our server the day before (including templates & family files).  It doesn't seem to happen with anything I save locally.

I'm losing a lot of work & wasting a lot of time.  I'm really not sure what to do.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this??

We were having alot of trouble with corrupted files as well. (a lot of "file is past it's end"WinkingIt all stopped when we got a new server. The problem was with the connection of the local workstations with the file server.

Basically the way that Revit writes files is to (sort of) append information to the file on the server. If you have a bad or slow server connection, this flow of information will be corrupted.

In the short term we had to work locally then save back to the server at night, not the best answer, but it worked, as the information is written as one complete file (it aslo meant we had a backup on the local machine.)

Thanks Psymon

We had our server upgraded earlier this week, but the problem still occurs *%#*%!!

Working locally seems fine.  Will try copying files to the server tonight for a backup & see how things go on monday.

I've been doing a bit of investigating & read that Revit may conflict with CA Security Anti-virus Software.  Just out of curiosity, do you use CA Security??  We had the software installed about a week before the problems started.

I have heard CA Anti virus can cause problems.

We have used Kaspersky or Nortons, they seem fine

I can't remember exactly the sequence that was messing things up, but my interior designers at my last firm would have a problem that sounded similar to this. The problem they were creating was from opening their Revit file through window explorer or directly off of thier desktop. This works fine for autocad but (correct me if i am wrong) for Revit you should always open files locally or off of the network through the programs UI.
