Hello there, We are having a hard time showing our windows in plan correctly when we have them in a masonry veneer wall. Our symbolic lines go to the outside edge of the wall from finish to finish. Is there a way to have the symbolic lines snap to the stud (or "structure) layer? I created the wall in the window family to have a 3.5" sturcture 1 layer which is the same as our project file. I snapped and locked the symbolic lines to the stud layer and it didn't work. Picture 1 shows the first attempt. Picture 2 shows the attempt to lock to structrure 1 and didn't work. I also attached the window file. Can anyone help? Thanks so much. Lorne

Typhoon, first let me thank you for making that video I appreciate it. But I deliberately turned the frame, glass, and such off in plan because we do not show our windows graphically like that. We show our windows graphical with two edge lines that are aligned with the Stud wall. Then one center line representing the glass. There is nothing else we show for our windows in plan (we keep it simple). My problem is trying to get the two edge lines to align with the stud in my project. Does what I'm trying to accomplish make sense? Is it possible? Thanks so much for your help, Lorne

Hi Lorne, It is not possible to lock elements to the structural layer of a wall - currently only the interior or exterior face. You could add instance parameters that allow you to adjust these as needed for each window or each wall type, but it currently isn't possible to automate.

Yea I was afraid of this. Do you have any suggestions on how I can execute this with instance parameters? Is there a way to be able to add an arrow grip to slide the lines into place and align them with the stud? Am I still asking too much hehe Thanks, lorne

This is possible, you just need to assign the instance parameters to references planes with a "strong reference". Although I'd probably just have two parameters, one for stud width, and one for offset exterior...

Great thanks. I actually did two parameters: Stud width and Interior offset. The exterior will always be different for stud, siding, stucco etc walls. Interior always has 1/2" Gypsum. Thanks for the help. Lorne
