How do you show a turning vane on a mitered elbow on '08 MEP. I need something that actually looks like the vanes inside that allow the air to take a nice smooth curved corner.

I'm guessing you mean turning vanes actually being modelled in an elbow, and not just annotations indicating it. In this case you would need to model an elbow family to show these turning vanes. You can then load the family into your template and tell the duct family to use that family as the deafult elbow.
