If you set up the options file right you can get away with a lot less liciences than the number of users. in our office we have 100 fairly heavey users and 20+ plus users who us it for a few minutes a day. We only have 70 liciences and are never short of licences.

If people are interested i will make a tutorial on how to do this.

Hi,

So first you set up you Lmtools as normal. making sure your LOG file is working as this is the inly way to tell if the Options file is set up right.

Then in the folder where you .lic file is make a new file called adskflex.opt It has to be named this and you should make the file using Note Pad. Remember not to have it called adskflex.opt.txt , so you have to have your folder structure so that it shows the file extension.

in the options file (.opt) copy the below text between the doted lines , replace all XXX with a name apropriate to your firm.

--------------------------------------------------

##XXXXXX-OPTIONS file#Created 10th December 2007###Sets inactivity timeout for all products to 15 mins and Revit 2008 to 15 mins

TIMEOUT 54700REVITS_2008_0F 900

TIMEOUTALL 1800

#Defines report log for use by SAMReport-Lite

REPORTLOG +C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License Manager\SAMReport-Reports\XXXX.rl

------------------------------------------------------------------------

then shut down your Lmtools service and restart it and reread the lic file.

you will know if it is sucsesful if you read the log file in LMTools and it says

if you get a good result like this then if someone has revit open but isn't actively using it after 15 the licience will be returned to the server, don't worry about people who haven't saved there work as when a user returns in say 40 mins the first time they touch revit again they will get the licience back once there are free liciences. if there aren't free licinces then they will be allowed to save there work.

i find this works very well as if your in an office of over 50 revit users i bet that most will have revit open but at any time i bet at least 30% are either sending emails writing reports in meetings our doing someting apart from actually using revit.

any question?
