I have a question regarding references.  Example: In Autocad or Microstation you would draw all your detail in one drawing and reference those sections and details to a sheet.  In Revit when you detail a 3/4" wall section and then add a callout for a detail of the same section at 1 1/2" to show it in even more detail the view is stripped of all detail component information.  Which means i have to copy and paste in same location to get the detail components from the wall section into the blow up detail.  My question is: Can I draw one building section with all my detail information in that building section view and then create a reference view so that all my detail components and lines come with the model information at my new scale.  I don't want to have to recreate that information for each new detail I pull from a particular wall section.  I hope my question is clear and thanks so much for any work arounds or suggestions you might have.

One way that I have approached this problem is to duplicate the view with detailing and then change the scale and reduce the viewport size instead of creating a callout.

But does that solve the problem of when you change detail information in the wall section, because i don't think it updates in the blow up detail.  For example if my cap flashing changes from 6" to 8" and it was a detail component in my wall section i have to remember to change it in the detail view as well, right?

i may have found a solution to my own problem.  Let's say i am drawing a building section and i want the detail componts/lines and ect. to show up when i cut a wall section and detail section.  i will make a group out of all the components in a particular wall section and copy and paste in same place to the wall section and detial view.  Once i have done this if i change something to that group it makes the change to all groups with the same name.  Using groups helps with the reference nightmare which is Revit.

Yes, This is my solution as well.  I think it actually works quite well.  If for instance I were to make my crop boundary larger (in the smaller called out view) then all the detail work is shown as well.  This concept together with 2008's new funcionality in groups make it a seeminly failproof system.. Good luck.

to insert 2cents would be that perhaps you need to be modeling more of the details you want to show up in every view.  Generally anything drawn in 2-d drafting lines are best kept to your 1-1/2" details and thus leaving wall sections clear of these 2-d objects that don't show up in other views.  Cap flashing etc, that you want in every view are best modeled. Then the changes and updates are applied to every view that they are in.
